Activision has a sweet tooth

On Tuesday Nov. 3rd Activision Blizzard purchased King, the company behind Candy Crush Saga for 5.9 Billion dollars.

The acquisition still has to be approved by King’s shareholders and the Irish high court, but it should be finalized by Spring 2016. Activision has clarified the reason for the purchase saying,”The addition of King’s highly-complementary business further positions Activision Blizzard for growth across platforms, audiences, genres, and business models.” Activision also discussed how many employees from King they would hire. “King has a truly fantastic management team and over 1,600 incredibly talented employees and we are excited to welcome them into the Activision Blizzard family.”

Reactions have been varied. Many people have argued that King isn’t worth the money Activision bought them for, claiming that King has only created a couple of unoriginal mobile games. Some think it’s a good idea, junior John Martinez-Goldberg said “Them buying that company is a good move economically, now they’ll make more money, because everyone knows how popular candy crush was.”

In more recent news, Activision has announced a movies and T.V. division to their company, which is another major business venture for the business.
