The Niles North math team has gotten off to a great start for the 2013-2014 school year. There have been two meets so far, and Niles North has dominated both of them. The Vikings are also 1st place overall as a school in the Cook County division.

In the first meet, Niles North went up against Chicagoland Jewish High School, Larkin High School, Romeoville High School, and St. Charles North High School. At this meet, the freshmen won first place, the sophomores won first place, the juniors won second place, and the seniors won third place. In the oral competition, Niles North took home second place, but was first place overall.

In the second meet, the freshmen again won first place, the sophomores won second place, the juniors improved by winning second place, and the seniors also improved by winning second place. In the oral competition, Niles North took first place. At this meet, the Vikings competed against Highland Park High School, Larkin High School, Loyola Academy and Schaumburg High School. Once again, the Vikings took first place overall.

First year member of math team, senior Nikko Quiballo said, “I joined the team for two reasons. One, joining math team really helped me sharpen skills that I had forgotten. Two, everyone is nice and welcoming and the environment is really great.”

The math team has many exceptional members this year. A few notable members include Aidan Perrault (Oralist), Jiedong Duan (perfect paper recipient and Oralist) and Cameron Benesch (earned 2 perfect papers).

For more information on math team, you can contact any of the coaches. The coaches are Katherine France (freshman), Conrad Musleh (seniors), Sean Delahanty (sophomores) , Ankur Joshi (juniors and orals) and Bonnie Wieberg (administrative). The team meets on Fridays after school in room 2215. Anyone is welcome to join!
