Nike opened its first-ever Michael Jordan Brand store in Chicago on October 24 2015. Hundreds of spectators from near and far gathered at the 32 South State Street location in celebration of the former Chicago Bulls star’s mystique.

Although it is the first of its kind, the Michael Jordan store or as it is officially called the “32 South State” after its address, plans to ultimately pay tribute to the greatest basketball player of all time- Michael Jordan. Jordan Brand returns to its hometown with its latest flagship store and there is no better place to do it than where the superstar has been making history since his draft in 1984.

“Michael Jordan is essential when it comes to the sports of Chicago, so it’s only right that Nike opened the first and only store in Chicago. He is so well respected here and we should always pay tribute to the best basketball player of all time” Hadeel Fouad, senior, said.

The store features exclusive items associated with the Jordan brand and has items chosen “specifically by Michael,” according to the brand manager. Nike also plans on expanding the Michael Jordan store concept to cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto with the man himself.

With the new space, the extraordinary heritage of the city is linked to the future of Jordan Brand. In partnership with Footaction, the store operates as a retail experience that celebrates the performance, style, and soul of the brand.

Along with the store, Jordan Brand introduces Station 23, which is located right above. The space aims to serve elite high school athletes from the local community who are looking to take their game to the next level. The new training lab incorporates workout sessions by some of the most talented trainers in the Chicago area. Also, you can go there for a basketball court, digital training stations, and a premiere strength and conditioning facility. The space houses a customization booth, where fans are able to put personal touches on Jordan Brand apparel and footwear.

“I’m really excited to visit this store. You can tell that Nike and Jordan definitely put a lot of thought into the entire design aspect of the store. It has a lot of new and exciting features that other athletic places don’t have” Mustafa Wahdan, senior, said.

There is no place like home and it’s only right that Jordan Brand returns to Chicago in celebration of number 23.
