On Saturday, April 14, the Niles North community will come together to dance, sing and celebrate its cultural diversity.

“International Night has been held for about 20 years and it showcases what makes Niles North different. It is basically a celebration of diversity in the school,” Aaron Minkus, International Club sponsor, said. At this event, students have the opportunity to showcase and educate others about their heritage through music, dance and food.

Clubs performing at the event include: Assyrian Club, Black Student Union, Chinese Club, Filipino Club, French Club, German Club, Indo-pak, Israeli Club, Korean Club and Latino Club. The Hellenic Club is unable to participate due to celebration of Eastern Orthodox Easter on Sunday, April 15. “It was a horrible mistake of not checking the dates,” Minkus said. “Everybody is extremely sorry about not having the Hellenic Club perform.”

International Club hopes that International Night will continue to be successful this year since everybody has been working tremendously hard to prepare for the festival. “We have been having daily dance practices for traditional and Hip-Hop Korean dances to prepare for this night,” Irene Cho, a sophomore member of Korean Club, said. “Everybody should come have fun, eat and watch their peers perform because this event really allows you to understand all the cultures you walk with everyday in the hallways. It shows you different perspectives on people so you can understand them better,” Cho said.

Minkus adds that the International Club wants to to thank the community “for its support of all the ethnic and cultural diversity in District 219 and for giving the students a stage to show the beauty of their cultures.”

International Night will be celebrated in the Field House from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Admission will be $2 per student and $10 for a whole family.
