Niles North prom guide: Prom made simple

Prom is only two weeks away people and it’s crunch time. For those of you who like to procrastinate and wait until the last minute, (a.k.a. everyone) here are some tips to help prom time easier.

Dress Shopping:

It is not impossible to find a prom dress two weeks from the actual night, in fact, it might make things easier than you’d think. By now, most stores are starting to discount more and more dresses in order to get them out of stock, that means your dress is cheaper. Now, this also means you might have to lower standards a little bit, your Cinderella ball gown may not be in stock or it may still be too expensive. Also, at this point, you’d probably be better off going out to stores and physically looking for a dress; it’s a lot safer and that way if you need tailoring it can be done quicker and you can have your dress sooner. Buying a dress online is not always reliable and by the time it’s delivered, it may not be the right size, or it may not be all that it looked like in the photo on the website.

Hair and Makeup:

Fancy hair and makeup is absolutely optional, don’t let everyone fool you. But if you are looking for that dolled-up look find people that you know, or that your family knows to do it for you. Hit up your mom, your cousins, your aunts and uncles, your friends, anyone you think may know someone who’s in the business of doing hair and makeup. Maybe check out Sephora, they always have people there doing makeup throughout the day, so find someone you like and ask if they’d be interested in doing it for you on prom night.

Transportation:

Transportation is tricky; everyone has their preference. If you’re into the more glitz and glamour option, there’s party busses and limousines, but these need to be planned in advance and they are expensive. So, if you’re looking for something less expensive for a smaller group, you can rent a car for the night. You have to be 18 and have to have a valid drivers license, but it is a good way to spice the night up and make it a little more luxurious. Cabs are always and option; no one is going to judge you based on your mean of transportation because everyone’s there to have a good time and no one want any drama. Whatever’s easiest for you to come by is the best.

Pictures:

The entire picture-taking process is one of the best parts of prom. It’s what solidifies the memories and makes them real. Photographers can range from professionals to your parents, it’s just up to you as to what you want there. Remember, it’s your night! Don’t want an expensive photographer there? Find someone with a nice camera and have them take your pictures. Or hit up one of our North Star photographers that aren’t going to prom, I promise they’d do a great job!

Overall, prom is a stressful time but you just have to know what you want and what you’re able to afford. The night itself is going to be an amazing one. You’re always going to remember your prom night so try to make it as fun and as memorable as possible!
