NN theatre’s take on Shakespeare is a “Labour” of love

The Niles North Theatre Department latest production  takes a 1950’s spin on William Shakespeare’s classic comedy, Love’s Labour’s Lost,  Oct. 11-13.

“There are a lot of fun touches that add to the audience’s reception of the play and set up the time period,” senior and assistant director Athanasia Giannetos said.

The story follows the King of Navarre (junior Noah Zeidman) and his three noblemen, who make an oath to live three years in complete devotion to their studies, without any female interference.  However, the king is set to host the princess from France and her three ladies, and immediately the men realize the trouble that faces them.

The show, directed with a touch of Grease by Timothy Ortmann, also boasts an epilogue, prologue and dance number.

The play’s cast includes  Zeidman as the King of Navarre,Teresa Franks as Princess of France, Lauryn Schmelzer as Jaquenetta, Eugene Hyun as Don Armando, and Sam Rosenfeld as Costard.  Additional cast: Justin Shannon, Simon Gebremedhin, Chistopher Khoshaba, Natalie Alleman, Rachel Sepiashiveli, Joanna Vaklin, Nathan Selinger, Martin Wiviott, Hanna Sahyouni, Katie Bean, and Tahir Razzaq.

Student Staff include:  Nina Roy, Stage Manager; Athanasia Giannetos, Assistant Director; Max Dolinko, Assistant Stage Manager; Camille Paskind, Dramaturg; Sabina Dzelilovic, Shop Manager; Emma Decker, Assistant Technical Director; Maddie Martin, Carpenter; Ryan Loach, Properties Master; Sarah Alkyer, Props Assistant; Rachel Sepiashvili, Sound Designer; Erin Rourke, Sound Engineer; Alex Hammond, Assistant Lighting Designer; Danielle Kropveld, Master Electrician; Sarah Alkyer, Costume Mistress; Ryan Loach, Costume Assistant; and Sebastijan Torgus, House Manager/Promotions.

“Even though the process was often tough, it’s been a great show to be a part of,” Zeidman said.

The play’s community performance was in the Auditorium at 10 a.m. Thursday. Evening performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Future theatre productions include: That’s My Story, Nov.7; Almost, Maine, Dec.6-8; Reflections, An Improv Show, Jan.9,2013; Aristophanes’ The Birds, Feb.12-13; Beauty and the Beast, March 14-16; and Punk Rock, May 2-4.
