Senior year ready

Senior+year+ready

The time has come seniors- the college application process is upon us. Niles North’s college and career counselor Allegra Giulietii-Schmitt announces a senior Extended Homeroom occurring on Tuesday, Aug 18. In addition, Senior Night will occur the following day on Wednesday, Aug 19 at Niles West High School’s auditorium. Students are strongly encouraged to attend these events as it will help guide and inform incoming seniors through the rigorous college application process.

When you think of the word “college”, students often feel knots tying endlessly in the pit of their stomach. The pressure for students to meet the college application deadlines, completing their common app essays and personal statements, submitting their transcripts and what not is just unbelievable. Senior year is supposed to be fun, not stressful. Have no fear! Many seniors of Niles North have survived this process and so can YOU.

Of the many students that have walked through these halls, Niles North alumni, Keenna Shah, stayed focused and prepared when it came to the college application process. “Students should definitely take advantage of the resources at Niles North, such as the college resource center, your counselor, teachers, and even upperclassmen. Try to narrow down choices and do not procrastinate with applications! Time will fly, but most importantly, have fun your senior year,” Shah said.

Niles North provides various resources that are extremely helpful to students enduring the college process, and it’s highly recommended that every student should visit the college resource center throughout the year. “Senior Night will help highlight the important aspects of the college application process- such as how to go about asking for recommendation letters, submitting request for transcripts, and overviewing important deadlines for this year,” Giulietii-Schmitt  said.

Senior year is the most exciting, yet critical point in our lives. It’s become the year where our goals and accomplishments helped pave the way to our future successes, and step out of our adolescence into the means of adulthood. Just stay focused, be positive, and most importantly- have fun Class of 2016!
