From January 15 to 18, the Auroris Dance Company presents Impulse in the Niles North auditorium. There is a free community performance on Thursday, January 15 at 10 a.m. along with weekend performances Friday, January 16 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, January 18 at 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.

The Auroris Dance Company is made up of 31 dancers of varying grades and are split up into hip-hop and jazz companies based on what they auditioned for. What’s amazing about their performances is that there are some larger collaboration numbers, but most of it is student choreographed, which tells a lot about the talent in the company. Dancers sign up for these numbers and the choreographers pick who will ultimately be in the number. For some numbers, the company will also hire professionals to help choreograph.

“I look forward to showing the school what Auroris is capable of. I think many of the student choreographers brought impressive dances to the show and I can’t wait for people to finally get to see the final result,” senior Saadat Kaplinsky said.

Impulse will have a wide variety of styles that are sure to keep the audience entertained. To name a few, there are dances in jazz, modern, hip-hop, Bollywood, broadway, Argentine folklore, ballet and even spoken word. This is quite different from their past performances due to the immense diversity within the group and the dance pieces themselves.

Senior Sivan Eliasoff expressed her excitement to show off their hard work. She said, “Dancing on the stage under all the lights and hearing the cheers and applause at the end is the most invigorating and amazing experience, and you can really see and hear how all the blood, sweat, lots of tears, stress, and bruises pay off.”

Obviously, Auroris has worked incredibly hard, seeing as they practice three times a week and some weekends. Impulse is definitely something you don’t want to miss out on.

In addition to their annual showcase, Auroris is proud to host their first ever hip-hop invitational. The Auroris hip-hop dance company will compete with other local high schools as well as professional Chicago crews. There’s a lot of talent to be found at the invitational.

“The competition gives a lot of exposure for hip-hop dancing and expresses a variety of styles. Overall, I’m looking forward to a fun, overwhelming experience. It’s the best time of the year,” Anna Mancia said.
