First annual karaoke night a success

Wednesday, November 19 marked the first annual Dance Marathon (DM) Karaoke Night. For the small price of $3, students and teachers were able to come and watch or sing in the Commons for quite the crowd. All the money raised will be going toward this year’s beneficiary, the Dan Horyn Foundation.

For those of you who are not familiar with DM, it is a student run organization that unites Niles North, Niles West and the whole community to raise money and awareness for a single cause. At the end of the year, the efforts are celebrated by dancing the night away on one night (May 17 this year) and seeing the final amount of money raised by the group effort.

Karaoke night featured singers of all grade levels, and a few teachers as well. It was a very relaxed and laid back event and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

“Planning an event is always scary, especially when it’s the first time the event is happening. But the crowd was so full of energy and the turnout was great – much better than we anticipated,” Becca Rabizadeh, a DM executive board member said. “Everyone in the room was so supportive, clapping and singing along and that made it such a great environment to just have fun in.”

Since there was great success in this event, DM is planning to make the event an annual one, so expect next year’s to be bigger and better!
