The Niles North Student Government is looking for students from all grades to participate in the new organization: Student Association.

Student Association is designed to be a liaison between the Student Government representatives and the student body. The goal of Student Association is to be a place for students to voice their concerns to Student Government. Student Association is also meant to make the whole student body aware of what is talked about in Student Government. Participants in Student Association will talk to their homerooms before and after the Student Association meetings to make their homerooms aware of what is going on in Student Government and Student Association.

Student Government is looking to have at least one representative from each homeroom in Student Association.

“There can be more than one representative from each homeroom… really, the more students who join, the better!” said Student Activities director, Caroline Benjamin.

The requirements for Student Association Representatives are as follows:

-Must be able to attend the 7:40 a.m. meetings taking place on the third Tuesday of every month. This means that students in Early Bird classes can not be in Student Association.

-Must be an effective communicator and check school email often.

-Must agree to be respectful to others during meetings and relay information to homerooms in an appropriate way that reflects well on the school (specifically the student body, Student Government, and the administration)

-Must be a non-Student Government member

-Must fill out a Student Association application and turn it in to the Student Activities office by Oct. 17

Madi Gardner, senior Student Government representative said, “With Student Association we could have more people representing the student body and with that we will have an easier way to communicate the things we talk about [in student government] to everyone else.”

Student Association will meet by grade level during their once a month meetings. In these meetings, the Student Association representatives will meet with their Student Government class representatives to discuss student concerns, ideas, and things that Student Government is already working on.

Benjamin said, “Student Association is meant to give more students a chance to voice their concerns to Student Government and be heard.”

Student Association will meet on the third Tues. of each month at 7:40 a.m. The rooms are to be announced.

Senior Student Government representative Med Jimenez said, “Student Association is a developing organization where we try to pull the students from everyone homeroom… and collaborate with student government on things going on around the school.”

If you are interesting in applying to be in Student Association, stop by the Student Activities office and pick up an application. Return the filled out application by Fri., Oct. 17 to the Student Activities room.

The first Student Association meeting will be on Tues. Oct. 21 at 7:40 a.m.
