Your first Viking of the Week announced

Your+first+Viking+of+the+Week+announced

Viking of the Week is back and it’s better than ever.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with what exactly Viking of the Week is, it’s a way to shine the spotlight on outstanding students, teams, and other members of the Niles North family.

This year, North Star worked with student government to help develop a new criteria in order to determine who exactly deserves the prestigious title of Viking of the Week. The students or student who will be chosen to be Viking of the Week meet one of the following criteria: spotlight, above and beyond, service, accomplishment or school spirit.  In other words, they have exhibited strong school spirit, done a great service to the school or community, accomplished something deserving recognition throughout the school, or have gone above and beyond in another way thus deserving to be in the spotlight.

Each week student government will work together in order to select a student who is deserving of this award.  The student will be recognized and featured in the morning announcements.

And the first Vikings of the Week are (drumroll, please!):

The Girls’ Varsity tennis team, as well as Dr. McTague and Dr. Robinson.

The Girls’ tennis team has received this award after their exceptional performance at their tennis tournament.  The team competed in Springfield the weekend of September 5th and came in first place!

“It feels incredible to be recognized as the Vikings of the Week!” Noa Horberg, captain of the girls’ tennis team, commented. The tennis team has never been honored like this before so this is just reassurance that we are doing all the right things.”

Girl’s head coach John Amaro added, “As far as being Viking of the Week, I feel great.  There are a lot of quality programs as Niles North High school and to know that the girls tennis team earned that award- I feel a lot of gratitude toward that.”

Dr. Robinson and Dr. McTague are being awarded Viking of the Week for the outstanding open house that took place last week.  Hundreds of cars filled the parking lots as parents enjoyed the experience of walking their children’s’ schedules and meeting the teachers.  It has been over ten years since Niles North hosted an open house.  This event would not have been nearly as successful without the hard work and dedication of Dr. McTague and Dr. Robinson.

When asked how he felt about being chosen as to be Viking of the Week, Dr. Robinson said, “It really feels good to be recognized for good things that we spearhead and help facilitate to bring some positive energy to our school community.  It’s really good and I feel honored.”

Tune in next week to find out who will be the next viking of the week!
