Political Animal: Romney gets my vote

Political+Animal%3A+Romney+gets+my+vote

Election day is finally here, well almost. This Tuesday, Nov. 6, America will decide the next U.S. president. No matter who you vote for, President Obama will almost certainly capture our (Illinois) 20 electoral college votes. The real contest will be in half a dozen “swing states”. Political junkies, (unfortunately, this includes me), waste countless hours analyzing poll numbers, desperately trying to predict an outcome. From personal experience, it’s addictive, but practically useless. There isn’t a pundit on television who knows for certain who will win. However, I do know why I think Romney should win.

When it comes to the economy, Romney has solutions that are realistic. Every year the United States spends a trillion dollars more than it has. Think about 1 trillion dollars. Thats 1 million millions. Can you even count to 1 million? Romney realizes that America simply cannot keep spending the amount that it is today. I agree with Romney’s plan to cut back on spending and lower taxes.

President Obama claims that he can cut the deficit simply by raising taxes on the rich. However, the president’s record has shown that he has no idea what it takes to get out of a recession. First he spent a trillion dollars on a stimulus bill which was supposed to dig us out of our economic ditch. Then, the president spent another trillion on a healthcare bill that was highly controversial. He passed it before House members had any idea what was in it. After all, according to then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what’s in it.”

This isn’t the kind of leadership I want to see in Washington.

It’s simple, the past four years haven’t worked. Obama has promoted policies that expand our government beyond a reasonable scope. Governor Romney knows that the best role for government is a limited one.

If you aren’t sure who to support, look at the economy. Unemployment numbers are stagnating at almost 8 percent and the economy has not recovered. It’s time to give a new leader a chance to bring our country back to success. Mitt Romney will bring a new set of ideas to the presidential table, ideas that will work by bringing our economy out of recession.
