Girls track celebrates a tearful Senior Night, successful season

Girls track said goodbye to 14 seniors at their Senior Night on Friday, April 26 at the 6th Annual Lady Viking Invitational.

This dedicated group includes Georgia Christus, Rosie Glassner, Whitney Jean, Leor Maor, Serena Hocharoen, Lily Wong, Jessica Brand, Jennifer Na, Karime Assaf, Kristin Apostol, Dasha Tumashov, Clariza Kotsovos, Samantha Acance and Alice Montague.

The team’s senior captains are Na, Maor, Brand, Christus, Hocharoen and Glassner.

“It’s bittersweet now that track season is ending because it’s been a big part of me these past couple years,” Maor says. “I met the greatest people and really learned how to push myself.”

The varsity team finished in second place with a final score of 126. Deerfield High School received first with an overall score of 142.

The junior varsity team finished in third place with a score of 109.50.

There were various standout performances on this bittersweet night. The varsity 4×400 relay, consisting of Brand, junior Jade Johnson, sophomore Amanda Ly and sophomore Lillian Perin triumphed with a time of 4:21.54.

Na, competing in 100- and 300-meter hurdles, received first and second place, respectively. Na finished her 100-meter race with a final time of 18.19, and a final time of 51.96 in the 300.

“It was very weird to see my friends and myself walking down the track with our parents because I watched my seniors walking for the past three years,” Na says. “Track has been really big part of my life and I will never forget people that I met through track.”

In addition to their seniors, the Vikings track team celebrated their successful season.

This season’s coaches include head coach Andrew Swedberg and assistant coaches John Fitzpatrick, Amy Zwikel, Matt Hunsucker and Jimmy Hawthorne.

On April 6, the varsity team dominated the Gerald Green Invite, receiving first place with an overall score of 144 points.

The team also competed in the Niles West Invite, finishing in second place with a commendable score of 127. The junior varsity team finished in third place with a final score of 69 points.

The girls competed for Conference on Friday, May 3 at Deerfield High School.
