The Niles North Vikettes team busted out all they had at their home TDI (Team Dance Illinois) competition on Saturday, Feb. 2. The national qualifying team entertained the crowd with their tough girly hip hop routine, filled with scary and intimidating facials, dark makeup and teased hair. They competed against other high schools such as St. Ignatius and Huntley High School. Their standout moves in their routine included team headstands and partner flips, which made them stand out from the crowd.

The varsity team scored fourth out of the seven competing teams and are determined to keep working and improving.

Senior and team captain Kayleen Enriquez says, “One thing I admire about these girls is their perseverance, always striving to get better and better. We’re all very passionate and put our heart and souls into every routine.” This perseverance is evident in that they had to re-choreograph their entire competition routine in one week in order to fit the style that resonated better with what the competition judges wanted. Their efforts were worth it in the end when they scored higher with their freshly choreographed routine.

The resilient and energetic dance team is going to bring it to the next level by having the opportunity to compete at State. Senior Becky Lenart believes that the Vikettes making State this year “…will be the cherry on top to an already great season.” Their next opportunity to do that will be at their next competition at Batavia High School on Sunday, Feb. 10.
