Six Flags forsakes its name for the turnout of the game

Illinois’ Six Flags Great America made a bet with New Jersey’s Six Flags Great Adventure to change the name of their theme park for a week based on the winner of the National League Champion Series (NLCS).

Six Flags Great America was willing to change their park name to Six Flags Great Mets, if the Mets won.  While Six Flags Great Adventure would give up their name to be Six Flags Great Cubs.  In addition to renaming the theme park, the Goliath ride in Illinois would be renamed to GoMets, and the Kingda Ka ride in N.J. would be renamed Kingda Cubs.

The New York Mets won the NLCS on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2015, to the Chicago Cubs.  Therefore, Six Flags Great America is currently known as Six Flags Great Mets until Nov. 1, 2015.

This is a great idea because it takes the NLCS to a whole new level of fun and anticipation.  This spin on the series created a roller coaster of emotions throughout the seven games.

Although, the Cubs were no competition for the Mets, this Six Flags bet drew more interest from the general public, and the audience was more involved in the games.

“Six Flags is going to lose a lot of money from the faithful Northside,” Jimmy Fraus said.

Cubs fans are outraged about the name change, but on the other hand, this GoMets will only last a week before going back to Six Flags Great America.  Either way, this was a great season for the Cubs and Mets.

There’s always next year, Cubs.
