The time for programming has come: Hour of Code

The+time+for+programming+has+come%3A+Hour+of+Code

Get ready, Vikings! Today is the Hour of Code event where all math students will spend their 42 minutes of class learning how to code.

Programming has come a long way since it began and has been expanding, but not everyone is taking advantage of it. There are many languages for programming out there, and today you will be coding using a language platform called Scratch. Scratch is an easy to use platform that allows students and coders to drag blocks of code and link them in order to make a game or whatever they wish.

For today’s event, you will play a game with the goal of completing each level. There are 20 total levels plus additional bonus challenge levels. You will be learning basic coding and how to make loops, if/else statements, repeats and more.

This isn’t just a school event –  the entire world of students and programmers are coming together to learn how to program.

Big thanks to Dave Ruth, math and computer science teacher, for this great opportunity for everyone to practice their coding skills. We are lucky to have programming classes here at North such as AP Computer Science, Video Game Programming and Computer Science and Engineering.

If you want to continue coding, visit code.org and begin your coding career. For more information, check out these additional coding resources:
